Open Hearts

Last week we reflected on the story of Jesus and his disciples crossing the sea of Galilee to go to the country of the Gerasenes, leaving the familiar for the unknown. In this week’s story, Jesus and his disciples have crossed back to familiar territory. Here they have an encounter with a powerful ruler of the synagogue, a source of Jesus’ opposition. The encounter ends up being different than one might expect as each man reaches out to the other with an open heart.
